A LITTLE COLOR THERAPY: KOMAS BEAUTY VELAA & MOODHU PALETTES | LADY TULIP

Hello Dolls & Gents,

I was recently in the market for a new colorful eyeshadow palette after finally retiring an old favorite from Morphe that had, unfortunately, reached its expiration date. Somewhere along the way, I found myself browsing Komas Beauty and eventually purchased two of their palettes, Velaa and Moodhu. And after a couple of makeup sessions, I have some thoughts. Let's start with the formula because, genuinely, I was pleasantly surprised.

The shadows are incredibly buttery and silky to the touch. I suppose it’s the talc, silica and dimethicone. They glide onto the eyelids beautifully, blend with very little effort, and, perhaps most importantly, are buildable without becoming patchy. The overall ingredients are pretty standard and supports adhesion, long wear and would help the pigments apply super creamy. On that note, the pigmentation is lovely, and I enjoyed being able to layer the colors to create more depth without having to fight the formula.

For someone who enjoys experimenting with makeup, particularly colorful eye looks, without breaking bank, that is always a welcome discovery.

Velaa is the more understated of the two, but certainly not boring. Its color story leans into earthy neutrals, warm terracottas, rich browns, muted olive green and a deep, almost-black shade that gives the palette some much-needed depth. There is also a gorgeous sparkling silver-champage taupe-brown that adds a little dimension to an otherwise grounded selection of colors.

It's the kind of palette I can see myself reaching for when I want a soft, diffused everyday eye or something smokier and more defined. In my view the matte shades are also super ideal as transition shades. I can see how the colors would allow for seamless transition/blending for colors in Moodhu palette. Which is lovely.

Moodhu, on the other hand, is where the color lover in me gets particularly excited. The combination of aquatic blues, turquoise, deep navy and earthy greens is beautiful. The warmer shades, soft pink-toned shimmers and a striking gold sparkle provide a lovely contrast to the cooler tones.

What I particularly appreciate about this color story is that it doesn't limit you to blue eyeshadow looks. There is enough variation in undertones and finishes to experiment with different combinations, whether that means a wash of colour, a more editorial eye or something a little more dramatic.

In fact, while the blues are super alluring, it was actually the shade ‘Fehi’ that captured my attention the most. I think, this is one of the most gorgeous greens that sits very well on my complexion.

'Fehi' actually looks darker in Moodhu palette. On my lids however, the color popped beautifully.

‘Fattaru’ I recon is a great dry eyeshadow topper and I think almost all the glitter eyeshadows work really well when applied and pressed on to the lids with fingers rather than a brush.

The eyeshadows do have quite a bit of kickback and some fallout, but I don’t really mind since the color payoff is wonderful.

Can we also talk about the packaging?

I suppose there would be some backstory to the visual direction. However, I am unable to find it online. If you have better insight into this, leave a comment.

Velaa features a charming illustration of a woman alongside a sea turtle, with an overall aesthetic that feels playful while still maintaining a connection to Maldivian identity. It definitely gives you a glimpse to the color story of the palette.

Moodhu takes a completely different direction. Its vibrant orange cover, layered with painterly textures and illustrated flowers, feels more expressive and almost like a miniature piece of artwork. I particularly love the contrast between the warm, earthy cover and the ocean-inspired shades waiting inside.

There is something refreshing about seeing local beauty products embrace visual storytelling rather than relying exclusively on conventional beauty packaging. I do think including the palette name on the bind would make the packaging even better. More so because I keep my palettes standing upright and stacked like books and that would make it easier for me to identify the palettes.

For context, I have ridiculously sensitive eyes. So sensitive that I cannot wear mascara, regardless of the brand or formula. Mascara tends to dry my eyes out terribly, leaving me with that persistent sensation of having something stuck in them, even after I've thoroughly removed the product.

So naturally, I pay attention to how my eyes react whenever I experiment with new makeup.

I managed to create two different looks with the Komas Beauty palettes, with my little makeup sessions lasting approximately one to three hours.

Interestingly, applying the shadows along my lower lash line didn't initially cause any discomfort. Some of the pigment inevitably transferred to my upper lash line as well, creating an almost tightlined effect that I rather liked.

However, I did notice some irritation after washing the makeup off. Whether this was a reaction to the eyeshadow itself or simply the removal process, I can't say with certainty. But the product was rather easy to remove with a gentle cleansing balm.

Given how reactive my eyes can be, I'm not quite ready to declare these palettes completely irritation-free. I'll also be paying closer attention to the individual shades and their suitability for use around the eyes, particularly the more glitter-heavy formulas. But that's just me. A girl with extremely sensitive eyes.

For now, my experience has been largely positive, albeit with that small reservation.

From a purely makeup-performance perspective, Komas Beauty has genuinely impressed me. The textures are buttery, the shadows blend beautifully, and the color stories feel thoughtfully curated. There's enough versatility between Velaa and Moodhu to create everything from softer everyday looks to more adventurous, colorful ones.

Would I recommend them? In terms of texture, pigmentation and blendability, absolutely. In the pursuit of replacing my Morphe eyeshadows, I have discovered a delightful local Maldivian brand that has curated good quality shadows. For anyone with particularly sensitive eyes like mine, though, I would advise being careful and to ensure thorough clean-up afterwards.

And despite that, I've enjoyed playing with these palettes enough that I'm now seriously considering adding their Kamana eyeshadow palette to my collection, which would very well give me versatile color eye makeup for about 2 years until I retire them. Apparently, two palettes weren't quite enough.

I will be sharing some makeup looks using Komas Beauty palettes soon. If you want to get your own Komas Beauty palette, you can find them at Repute.

Thank you for stopping by and for reading my thoughts on Komas Beauty, if there are any other Maldivian makeup brands that I should give a try, please let me know. Until next time.

Update: 30/10/2026

I have since added the Kamana palette to my collection as well, and I continue to be impressed. Together, all of these colors are so versatile, and the shades complement one another to create some beautiful looks that are in my opinion genuinely wearable.

''Goiyye' from Kamana palette was certainly an interesting shade that looked so much darker in the pan but appeared much brighter on my complexion. This is most definitely a very wearable shade for nights out.
Meanwhile I noticed that the shade 'Mamma' from Kamana palette mixes very well with other colorful eyeshadows in Moodhu palette, instantly brightening and adding so much light to them.  Getting to play and wear colors from all 3 palettes has been super fun.
